4th International E-Waste Day on 27th October 2021
The conference is being organised by WEEE Forum (World’s largest multinational centre of competence on E-waste based in Belgium) and Karo Sambhav with the European Union – Resource Efficiency Initiative (EU-REI) and GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH) as knowledge partners.
The focus of the conference is on “Solving the E-Waste Challenge using #allactorsapproach”. All stakeholders are responsible and accountable for the e-waste generated by them, therefore there should be an integrated effort by the government, industry, corporates, and consumers. All actors should collaborate in good faith and work towards the common goal of responsible recycling.
According to the UN, in 2021, each person on the planet will produce over 7.6 kg of e-waste, meaning that a massive 57.4 million tonnes will be generated worldwide. Only 17.4 percent of this will be recorded as being properly collected, treated, and recycled. Many initiatives are being taken to tackle this growing concern, but none of them can be fully effective without the active role of all stakeholders.
